I’m Kate Trysh

I’ve spent two decades behind the camera, capturing real moments with personality and purpose. My lens has followed stories across dozens of landscapes—documenting people, places, and animals along the way. I’m based in Toronto and bring that experience into every shoot, whether it’s for a brand or something personal.

Even the smallest travels fuel my photography. On my blog, I share photo stories from places that stayed with me long after I left, places that settled into memory and became part of the quiet archive I carry through my work.

A bit from the past

Photography has always been in my blood.My grandfather was a photographer, and I grew up flipping through stacks of black-and-white and sepia-toned family photos. They held stories from a time I never lived, yet felt deeply connected to. Those timeless images pulled me in — full of emotion, full of life.

That’s little me
Maybe that’s why I’ve always loved classic films. Their aesthetic, their pace, their way of telling a story all reflect what I find beautiful and feel timeless to me. I still value the feel of a real print in my hands. There’s a kind of magic in something you can actually hold.

My approach and vision

Photography, for me, is all about capturing moments that feel real, 
almost tangible. My style blends documentary, cinematic, and lifestyle approaches, focusing on the raw, relatable beauty of life.
Light is everything. I’m drawn to
the golden glow of sunrise, the cool tones of blue hour, and the magic of backlit or volumetric light. It brings depth, warmth, and emotion.

I’ve worked in studios and on location, and these experiences have taught me to adapt, stay creative, and capture special, meaningful moments, no matter the tools or light available.

When I’m not behind the camera

You’ll find me sketching, practicing calligraphy, playing board games, learning new languages, or creating herbariums. I studied botany and ecology early on, which sparked a lasting appreciation for nature and quiet places.

I’m also a graphic designer — I work across digital and print, crafting brand identities, editorial layouts, websites, and creative campaigns.
